Our Core Beliefs

Too many times churches are known for what they are against and little is known about what the stand on and stand for. Below is a brief look at our core beliefs.

  • God

There is only one true and living God who is all-powerful, all-knowing and ever-present - past, present and future. He has eternally existed in 3 persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but no division in nature, essence or being.

  • The Bible

The bible is the infallible Word of God, written by men, under the divine influence of the Holy Spirit. It is God's revelation of Himself to man, and is the supreme source of truth for Christian living.

  • The Church

The church is the body of Christ, connected by faith in the gospel. She is governed by the Word of God and operates under the Lordship of Christ, exercising the gifts, rights and privileges according to the Word. Her job is to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. Each member is accountable to Christ and one another.

  • Christ

Christ is the eternal Son of God. Conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary. He perfectly revealed and did the will of God, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and rose again to defeat sin and death for us. He is now seated at the right hand of God as our Mediator. He will return again one day to judge the world, gather his church, and take us to live eternally with Him in Heaven.

  • Salvation

Salvation is the redemption of the whole man, offered freely by all who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Only through God's grace and Christ's shed blood on the cross, can man be redeemed, not by anything we can do. Without Christ's redemption, man can only expect to be separated from God for eternity in a place called Hell.

  • Stewardship, Social Responsibility and the Family

These three core values are taught and exercised according to the Bible, and not worldly trends, and are explained in Class 101: Discovering Commonground Membership.

  • The Holy Spirit

He is the divine Spirit of God. He inspired man to write scripture without error. He is our teacher, comforter and guide. He convicts man of sin, righteousness and judgement, and our need for Christ. He baptizes every believer into the body of Christ at the moment of true salvation. He empowers us to live with wisdom, discernment, understanding of truth, and gives every believer a spiritual gift for the advancement of the gospel and the glory of God.

  • Man

Man is made in the image of God. Although innocent of sin, by free will, man sinned against God and brought sin to all mankind. Man's sin separates him from God and has created the need for a Savior.
